8/23/2008 Fuel Tank - 9 hours Today I started by disassembling the tank and re-assembling just the ribs, baffle, and z-brackets so that I could match drill the holes for rib/baffle/bracket. I then re-assembled the entire tank and installed it on the wing so that I could match drill the tank skin to the leading edge joint plate. While the tank was installed on the wing, I decided to take a picture of the wing mostly together. Next, I match drilled the remaining holes on the tank - skin to rib, skin to baffle, and skin to stiffener holes. Then I countersunk all the holes for the skin to baffle attachment. Next, I enlarged all the screw holes on the tank skin and the leading edge joint plate to #19. I did this in steps, starting with #30, then #27, then #21, then #19 so the holes wouldn't get buggered up. Next I fabricated the tank attach angle. This was a difficult and lengthy process without a good band saw - may be buying one in the future. I only made one, but marked the shapes on the remaining piece of angle for the left tank attach angle. Finally, I disassembled everything and deburred all the holes. Some edges still need deburring. |
