Tie Down Brackets - 1.5 hours First thing I did tonight was countersink the spar and attach more nutplates, but this time on the spar web at the inboard end. I started fabricating the plates that go behind the tie down brackets. I used one of these big flat hole drills in the drill press to drill the large center hole (1" diameter). I turned the drill press down to 250 RPM (the slowest it will turn) and used LOTS of WD40 to lubricate and cool, and moderate feed pressure. It did a great job. I just now realize that I need to make two more! The holes aren't EXACTLY centered (because I don't have a drill press vise), but their purpose is for lightening, so it shouldn't make much difference. I'll see if I can make the other two a little better. 3/10/2008 Tie Downs - 1.5 hours Tonight I finished fabricating the plates that go behind the tie-down brackets. I also got the first hole drilled in the brackets. |
