Tenth Flight 12/18 Before today’s flight I made a few modifications. First, I re-designed my document holders that are installed on the sides of the cockpit (near the pilot and passenger’s legs), with a spring-loaded front, so I can pull the front open to get at everything in the holder, because there wasn’t enough room above the holders. These now work great – much better. The second change I made was to try some JB weld to the slight fuel leak I have. Unfortunately, this didn’t fix the tiny little leak – I’ll have to get my butt under the fuel tank and clean this whole area better and try again. The fuel leak is very, very slow, but I can still smell fuel. Lastly, even with the stronger fan, I still barely even feel heat from my heater. The problem is that there must be too much back pressure for the fan to get good airflow through both heat muffs and the small hoses. My next step is to try some ram air into the heat muffs to push the air through the hoses and muffs, with the fan helping. My Sonex seems to be running great, as the amount of fuel in the plane has decreased the past few flights, (or perhaps the engine is breaking in more) take offs and climbs have been increasing – climbed at over 700 fpm. I do, however, still hear things that concern me – the engine seems to purr like a kitten, but twice today I heard what sounded like a miss. It was almost unnoticeable, but I heard what sounded like a miss for a maybe 1/5 of a second. It is probably nothing and I am freaking out for no reason. Today I also attempted my first stall. Slowed way down and kept the nose up and couldn’t really tell when she stalled – I figured she had stalled after about 20 seconds I noticed that I was 800 feet lower than when I started.
