Brief Description:    Things I need to correct
The more I fly the airplane, the more issues I find – although most of them are pretty minor.
Problems I need to correct:
1) Nav. lights. I apparently wired the navigation lights wrong – they work but the button to change the pattern is wired wrong so I can’t change it –Easy to fix.
2)Fuel leak. I have a slight fuel leak where the fuel line comes out of the tank. It is very slow – the area on the tank is damp, but I never see it drip. I plan to empty the tank and apply JB weld and see if I can plug the leak.
3) Rudder adjustment. I need to adjust the rudder because I have to keep a little left foot rudder to keep her flying straight at cruise, even with a trim tab installed.
4) Alternator not charging properly. I don’t think the alternator has been charging well from the beginning. I believe the highest voltage I’ve ever seen on the Enigma was 12.9 volts. A working alternator should be giving me 13 to 14 volts at max RPMs. So far, I have been charging the battery every so often and I thought that was because I was mostly running the engine on the ground and not at high RPMs, but after a couple of flights, I could watch the battery voltage slowly decrease, so I don’t think it’s charging very well (if at all).
5) High EGTs and CHTs. I have higher EGTs and CHTs than I would like. At cruise at a single point in time I was seeing the following: (cylinder# - CHT temp, EGT Temp) #1 311, 1256, #2 275, 1076, #3 338, 1346, and #4 311, 1220. So the back cylinders are much hotter than the front, and cylinders with the hottest CHTs also had the hottest EGTs. The first thing I’m going to try is to seal the baffle kit better – it looks like the baffles seal better around the front cylinders than the back cylinders and I think this may have a big affect. I plan to use the high temp RTV to seal the baffles better.
6) For hands-off cruise, I need to adjust the elevator ‘Dial-a-trim’ all the way nose up. So I need to increase the spring tension.
