Prepared the crank shaft and painted the block |
|
|
Today I spent a few hours working on the crank shaft. I clean it and the associated gear with mineral spirits (plus I removed the 4 hex plugs and clean inside as well). Then I made sure all the remaining parts for the craft shaft assembly are all ready. With everything ready, I put the crank shaft in the freezer (after some discussion about this with the wife). Tomorrow, when I get home from work I’ll turn the oven on and get the gear and hub heated up to the 450 degrees for assembly. I’ve heard lots of horror storied about the crank shaft – hub assembly so I’m a little apprehensive about the whole thing. Tomorrow will be a telling day. I also cleaned and painted the AeroVee block. Seeing how the plane is pretty mild (color-wise) I decided to add a little color to the engine, so I painted the engine block red – almost candy-apple red. I’ll have to see how the red anodized parts look against this red; maybe I’ll paint them too? |
