Fabricate Canopy parts. |

Started building the brackets and other parts I’ll need for the flip-forward canopy I plan to install. I’ve laid it all out and I think it’ll lift up and move/tilt forward enough to be completely out of the way and let people enter the plane from both sides. The usual, hinged canopy is the only aspect of the Sonex that I really don’t like. Since this Flip forward canopy lets people enter from both sides, I had to replace SNX-W20-01R with SNX-W20-01L which has the ‘wing walk’ part and install it upside-down on the right wing. I’ve weighed all the parts (and estimated the extra material included in the ‘Wing Walk’) that I’ll be adding or subtracting and come to the conclusion that I’ll be adding about one pound total weight for the new canopy design. Image 1 shows the brackets that well be fastened to each side of the canopy and the two arms for each bracket. I still need to fabricate the brackets that get attached to the fuselage sides. |
