Tail fairings |
|
|
After a month of working 75 hour weeks at work I am finally back to working on the plane. I had started and not finished about three different tasks, so I thought I'd finally finish them -starting with the tail fairings. Tonight and last night I worked in fabricating and installing the tail fairings. I have read that other builders have had problems making the fairings and I was no different. It took 5 tries before I got 2 good ones. At least I was smart enough to polish the aluminum before I bent the fairings. Unfortunately, I didn't think of this before I bent the 1/16" angle pieces, One thing that I did different; I really dislike the sheet metal screw fastener scheme that is called out in the plans for the fairings (and other parts) so I installed nut plates instead. I figure I may have added a little weight, but not stripping out sheet metal screws (in aluminum no less) makes for a much longer-lasting installation, IMHO. |
