Brief Description:    Canopy latch pins.
Today I finally installed the canopy pin system. I had been thinking about how to do this for some time and today I finally installed it. On the longeron, I had glued some rubber for a nice looking seal for the canopy, however, this rubber was too thick, plus I forgot to install the canopy pin angles before I glued the rubber in place. So first thing I did was to remove the rubber seal. Then I made two 1-1/2” long angle brackets out of 1’ x 1’ angle. Each of these angle brackets is riveted to the longeron (which is notched so the angle is flush to the inside of the longeron). Then I drilled a hole through the angle brackets, through the canopy latch angles, through the canopy square side, through the canopy and then through the outside canopy rivet plate. Since the angle is riveted to the longeron from the bottom side it is very strong. With the pin installed, not only does the pin keep the canopy latch angle engaged in the longeron, it also holds the canopy from coming up – doubly secure. Next, I’ll glue something very thin to the top of the longeron to dress it up – (I hate to see the longeron all scratched up from the canopy latches.)

Image 1 shows the canopy tatch angle riveted in place. The hole for the pin still need to be drilled out for the pin.
