Installed Naca vent and cowl air outlet lip |
|
|
Tonight I was looking through the instructions to figure out how to time the AeroVee and I stumbled onto something I forgot to do. I forgot to install the cowling air outlet 'lip'! This 'lip' sticks down 1" at a 60 degree angle to create a low pressure point where the air leaves the cowling to help pull the air out of the cowling. It was a simple matter to make and install these 'lips'. See image 1. They aren’t riveted yet because I am still waiting on my order from Wicks. Tonight I also finally installed the Naca vents in the fuselage. I had been putting this off until the fuselage was better polished, to keep as much of that black, polishing gunk from around the Naca vent. But I'm starting to run out of things to do. The last big thing I need to buy and install is the ELT. I had planned (and made provisions in the panel for) the 406 MHz ELT Model E-04 from ACK Technologies, but they are still working through getting this ELT approved. It seems like they are very close, but soon, I'll have nothing left to do except to wait for them. I've heard that the inspector will insist that the ELT is installed before they will issue the airworthiness cert. I really wanted to use this ELT, because it is considerably cheaper that other 406 MHz ELTs and the 121 MHz models are little more than extra weight. Plus, I can provide GPS data from the Enigma to this ELT, so if I do crash the searchers will know exactly where I am. The last couple of days I have been trying to get quotes for airplane insurance. So far I have one quote for $158/month - a little more than I wanted to spend. Hopefully, some of the other companies will be a little cheaper. I doesn’t help that I have never flown in a Sonex and I have a grand total of about 40 hours. |
