When I originally rigged the wings, one of the holes I drilled for the wing attach bolts was just a little too close to the side wall so that the bolt would not go in easily. So I ordered more aluminum angle and 1-1/4” square stock to remake the parts that were drilled for the wing attach bolts. I few days ago I remade these parts and installed them on the fuselage and wings and today I was going to re-rig and re-drill the one hole I screwed up. With some help, I positioned and leveled the fuselage and installed the wings and the three pins that were drilled correctly. I made sure the dimensions were correct and the wings were level and attempted to re-drill the hole again. I couldn’t believe it, but the new hole I drilled was worse than the first one. I spent most of a day screwing this up, again! Do’h. One thing I learned when installing the wings: grease the wing spars! The first time I tried to install the wings, I wore myself out pushing and fighting to get the wings fully inserted. The second time, I greased the spars liberally, and the wings glided in much easier. Another thing I screwed up today is that when installing the wings I kept pulling the wires and Pitot hoses into the fuselage so they would not be smashed between the wing and the fuselage. Unfortunately, I pulled too much on the Pitot hoses and I pulled them all the way out. Now I have to figure out how to re-install the Pitot hoses back through the grommets to the Pitot hole! I did have a little success today, I completed the wiring for all the wing lights and everything works great. |
