Brief Description:    Canopy and document holders
Spent most of the day today working on the canopy. I think I have it so it is acceptable – not great – but acceptable. There is still a small gap under the starboard-aft portion of the canopy that I can’t seem to get completely closed up. I drilled and riveted both sides and I think there are no cracks, although I did have a small crack under one of the screw holes from when I drilled those weeks ago. Fortunately, the crack is on the side near the edge, so if the crack gets bigger hopefully it will only go to the edge and stop. I still have some adjusting to do to make the plexiglass flush with the aluminum sides – I have to install some small spacers to bring the plexiglass out flush with the aluminum.

The first two images show the canopy open and closed – not really much to see in those two pictures.

After I finished working on the canopy, I fabricated up two ‘document holders’ to install on each side just forward of the wing spar tunnel. These holders are about 5” X 11” X 1.5” and are sized to hold sectional charts. Image three shows one of the holders installed. After I installed the first one I was concerned that it was too deep and might get in the way of the passenger’s feet, but I climbed in the cockpit and it was not an issue. It also should be quite easy to reach and keep things nicely stowed.

My panel is STILL at the screen printers, so I can’t go back to working on that, so it looks like I’ll have to go back to working on the cowling.
