Brief Description:    Nonslip entry areas
Some builders install black, non-slip stickers to the area where you’re supposed to step to enter the cockpit, but I never liked that. So I have instead etched, primed, and painted silver the ‘wing walk’ area on the wing both wings. Next I painted the letters to spell out Sonex over the paint in black. To do this I printed out some big letters onto a transparency and cut out the black ink. Then I laid the transparency down on the silver paint and traced the letters. Finally I removed the transparency and painted in the traced letters with a tiny brush and black paint. After a few coats were hand brushed on, I sanded the entire wing walk area smooth again. Since I had planned to cover this entire area with non-slip, I didn’t need to worry about a perfect finish. I bought some spray-on, clear, non-slip coating, from Krylon, which is supposed to be really durable, so hopefully it lasts a long time and should look better than some black, non-slip stickers.

Neither wing turned out perfectly, in fact the right wing must have been too cold for the non-slip because as soon as I sprayed it on it got all weird looking. It looks like a dried lake bed - but it really is super non-slip with all the little cracks sticking up. I plan to leave it for now.
