I wasn’t happy with the finish I was getting with the Scotchbrite wheel, so disassembled the rear HS spar (had to do that anyway) and brought it over to Steve Ashby’s shop to see how he had been getting his done. Turned out he was using abrasive blocks something like sandpaper on a flexible block. I also needed to rivet the center elevator hinge bearing together, and I still don’t have a rivet squeezer or gun. While there, Steve and I also worked on the bottom skin for his RV8A. We also cleaned, scuffed, and primed the spar reinforcing strips and rear spar. Steve was kind enough to lend me some of his sanding blocks, scotchbrite pads, and drill bits to bring home. While at Steve’s, I managed to set the first 6 rivets in the aircraft, and to complete the first permanently joined assembly to be in the airplane.
