Wing tip light prep (40-08) |

I started the trimming the tip by marking the line with a sharpie...I had to sketch in my own line in a couple places along the top where the edge wasn't defined in the mold. I then took m ost of the material off with my cut-off wheel attachement on my dremmel. Then followed up with the sanding attachment. This worked nicely and I was able to shave it down right to the line. Then I finished with sanding paper to smooth out the edges. For the top I had to make a lot of trial fits...then sand it down, then trial fit, then sand it down in another spot. I was trying to get the ends and top rail to fit up as nicely as possible to minimize the bump. My wife helped me hold the tip in place when I sarted drilling holes. Next is to do a little research and place an order for the epoxy/flox and proseal. Neither of which I'm familiar with. I did some fiberglass work in college on our University of Louisville Formula SAE car ('98 & '99), but that was a long time ago and different that what is needed here. I hope those skills will come in handy when it's time to do the canopy fiberglass work....another project that makes me nervous. |
