Attaching J-stiffner to bottom skin (10-06) and sq |

After 3-4 tries to squeeze the round head fillets (AN470AD4-4) to attach the J-stiffeners (F-1283) to the bottom skins (F-1282) and then drilling them out, I decided to do some experimenting. Besides using up a bunch of perfectly good rivets, that I will probably have to replace, I noticed that my current squeezer tends to put a moment into the rivet and cause the rivet to lean over. I don't think it has much impact for the flat head rivets, but the round head allows the head to pivot and results in a miss-alignment as the rivet is squeezed. After much internal debate with myself and more trials I ended up purchasing the big squeeze from Cleveland Tools. I'm heading off to do some hiking this weekend in the Great Smokey’s, so it will be another week before I can get a chance to try the new tool out. |
