Brake cables |
|
|
Worked on the brake cables. As long as I only attach the housings to the gear legs and engine mount, I can still take the engine mount on/off the firewall (with the gear legs installed). I will not attach the cables to the brake arm, just so I can remove the wheels from the gear legs (saves weight and complication when taking the engine mount on/off). - Layed out the black brake cable housings to run from the engine mount block (photo #2), down the gear legs, and to the cable guide on the axles (photo #1). - Cut the housing to length with wire cutters (the inside of the housing is spiral wrapped steel), and cleaned up the opening to the cable would run freely. - Cut the outer black plastic sheathing away from the inner metal housing at each end of the housing. About 1/2" gets cut away at the brake-end, and about 1/4" gets cut away at the (engine mount) block end. The metal housing goes inside those end points, and the black plastic stays outside. - I don't want tie wraps possibly eating through my engine mount when grit and vibration get underneath, so I put a couple of wraps of RESCUE TAPE (black) around the metal, before wrapping the tie wraps. Rescue tape only sticks to itself, and it is impervious to oil, fuel, etc. - Put tie-wraps in key locations to hold the cable housings in place. - A/C spruce didn't give me enough wire! Plenty of housing, but not enough wire. I'm about 24" too short, so I have to order more to finish up. |
