ELT antenna installation |
|
|
Next was the installation of the antenna. The instructions say if it's mounted in thin material like a fuselage skin, to add a doubler of 2" in diameter, minimum of .040 thickness. I used .060 thick, and bent it slightly so it matched the fuselage curve. The antenna needs to be at least 36" away from the radio antenna, so I measured about 40" away from the comm antenna and marked the location. I then drilled a starter hole, and updrilled to a 1/2" diameter with a step drill bit. To hold the doubler in place I roughed up both surfaces, then used a little epoxy. But the doubler must make contact with the fuselage, so I only dabbed on some epoxy in a thin line around the inside. I then installed the antenna through the fuselage and the doubler (photos 2 and 3). |
