Over torque spark plug |
|
|
Photo 1 is what happens when you over torque a spark plug! The entire threaded portion snapped off while it was in the head. Fortunately a slightly oversized flat head screw driver provided enough friction to back it out cleanly. I was trying to torque to 22 ft/lb it didn't get that high before is snapped. Checking online it seems like not many engine enthusiasts actually torque their spark plugs. They "snug" them down. I would have done well to do the same. The problem I'm finding now is that these plugs are special-order motorcycle plugs, and 5 different automobile parts stores don't stock them. I had to go online to Amazon.com to get more. Photo 2 is the cowl put together so I can drill around the hub area for Skybolt fasteners. |
