Exhaust opening (1 of 2) |
|
|
Worked on the cutout in the lower cowl for the exhaust pipes and the cooling air exit. - First I put the cowl on and marked the edge where it met the forward fuselage. There was excess material so I needed to trim it back. Then took the cowl off again for the next step. - Marked the 4"x12.5" cut (photo 1), and cut it out with a Dremel cutoff wheel (photo 2). - Photo 3 is the cutout when mounted on the fuselage. UPDATE October 2016: - After flying for more than 2 years now, I have found the 4"x12.5" opening too SMALL to properly cool the engine. - I opened my exit by around 20% and had much better results. - I recommend you open your exit to at least 13.5"x4.5", or something like that. - If you have a bottom mounted oil cooler I also recommend you make that opening smaller (see the updated post) |
