Turtle deck installation |
|
|
- Remember before I put the turtle deck skin in place I marked a 1" line down both turtle deck sides, that shows how much of the skin is inserted behind the side skins. - Started with the LEFT side of the turtle deck, per the instructions on F19. Aligned the 1" line front to back, and clamped in place. - Started at the front and worked toward the rear, pilot drilling and cleco'ing about every 2nd or 3rd hole. Then went back and pilot drilled the rest of the holes. - Moved to the RIGHT side and aligned, drilled and cleco'd just as I did for the left side. - Put the clip angle on bulkhead #5 (F20-05). I just put it on with a couple of clecos for now. - Drilled the half dozen pilot holes along the bottom of the bulkhead. - Drew a center line along the flanges of the bulkhead so I know I'm getting the rivet holes centered along the flange. - Inserted the #5 bulkhead in place and moved it around to get a good fit to the turtle deck. I thought starting at the top center would be the way to go, but doing that I was seeing gaps between the bulkhead and the right TD skin. So instead I worked from the right side (worst case for the gaps) so that I know the flange was flush to the skin there. - Then I worked to the adjacent hole, then the next, etc., until I got to the last hole on the left side. It seemed to work well that way. - Now I went underneath the fuselage and pilot drilled the half dozen holes along the bottom of the bulkhead. |
