Fitting elevator tips. |
|
|
Began working with the elevator tip installation. I found that they fitt rather poorly, and had a large gap between the counter balance skin and the fiberglass tip. I know that the tip can be heated some and reshaped to some degree and help improve the fit, But, i had another thought. To be able to get the "Exact" shape to fit the counter balance skin, I used cardboard to "Trace" the outer perimeter of the skin where the tip fits. I re-created the skin tracing into my CAD program and then offset the outer skin tracing by the thickness of both the skin and the fiberglass to create a shape that wound fit into the fiberglass tip and hold it into the exact shape of the part it fits into. I can now use some heat, (Hot water), to cause the tips to hold the proper shape. Or, i may simply glue them into place and leave them to provide some structure strenght as well as hold them into the needed shape. They weight about 2 oz. each if that. ** Next post shows before and after pictures** |
