Using the spacer jig I made last time, I was able to drill the pilot holes in the elevator with great precision. Keeping the last layer of metal from moving away from the drill bit was a pain, but I found that if I didn't skip ahead any holes, the cleco would keep it pretty tight. I also remained contantly aware of the elevator thickness. It probably can't go too bad as long as there is a rib inside. Hopefully the next one turns out just as well.
