I started the engine for first time with the standard #3 needle that "everyone" with the Jabiru 3300 engine uses. The engine ran strong, and took throttle without hesitation. The engine seemed to be too rich as idle so, based on a suggestion from tech support, I reshaped the needle to be richer at full throttle, so it would need to be as rich at idle. Instead of modifying the #3 needle, I decided to modify the leaner #2 needle to have the same full throttle thickness as the #3 needle. This seemed to work fine, but upon additional testing the fuel flow numbers were unstable. I ended up switching back to the #3 needle. See future fuel flow post to hear more. |
