Left Aileron |
|
|
Tonight I started riveting the left aileron skeleton. First, I dimpled the #40 holes in the spar and reinforcement plates for flush rivets that attach the main ribs. Since the plate dimples will nest in the spar dimples, I used standard dies on the plates, and substructure dies on the spar. (As I'm writing this, I realize the rib flange will have to be dimpled too, so I'll go back and re-dimple the assembly with tank dies, and dimple the rib with the substructure dies.) I then riveted the inboard three holes attaching the plates to the spar, and riveted the -3 nutplate to the inboard end of the spar. I use NAS reduced head rivets on the nutplate, and countersunk the reinforcement plate with a few turns of the deburring tool. I finished up by blind riveting the nose ribs to the counterbalance pipe. Rivets Today: 10 Rivets Total: 6586 |
