H. Stab spar, elevator skins, control horns |
|
|
A day of miscellaneous tasks. Completed deburring the dimple holes of the elevator skins, then took care of machine countersinking the H. Stab. front spar flanges. I noticed that the factory paint was chipped on the left elevator control horn, and the underlying steel was showing some surface rust. To address this, I chucked a wire brush wheel in the drill press, and removed all of the loose paint, and then all of the surface rust from the steel. The paint had delaminated from a fairly large portion of the control horn. With the loose paint removed, I used some 220 grit sandpaper to feather back the good paint edge and ensure that the exposed metal was clean. I then reprimed with Tremclad rust primer. While i had the primer out, I cleaned and primed the nut-plates that will be riveted into the elevators. |
