Riveting Rear VS Spar |
|
|
Assembled and riveted the Rear VS Spar. My compressor is not working (insufficent power in the workshop to start it) so I am having to do this entirely by hand. Very slow. I found that I could not complete the 1/8" rivets with the hand-squeezer. Instead, I worked out a process by which I would start the rivets on the squeezer, and then finish them with a few whacks with a hammer on the C-frame. This ensured that the rivets didn't move in thier holes while I was trying to hit them with the hammer, and the C-frame kept everthing straigh and square while I was setting the rivets. The plain rivets went fine. A couple were over driven, so I drilled them out an replaced them. I am not happy with the flush rivets. Most are Ok, but 7 of them do not lie flat - these flush rivets aren't. It looks like I did not make the countersinks deep enough. |
