Cowl fitting |

Before I left the hangar for the weekend, I wanted to work on something that actually involved metal, so I decided to figure out how I was going to fabricate the cowl attach brackets. Back in September when I last worked on this part, I had misdrilled a hole in the right hand side, effectively scrapping the piece, so today I started by remaking that part. Once that was done, I needed to figure out a way to scallop the top edges to allow for bending up or down to fine tune the fit. I ended up using the template to drill out the 11/16" holes, and with those as a reference, drilled 3/8" radius holes to use as the inner part of the scallop. By measuring 5/8" from the center reference point on both sides, a simple line to connect to the tangent of the circle. Geometry kids...pay attention in school; you may build an airplane some day. To the band saw, out with the files...you know the routine. I was pretty pleased with the results. Right side tomorrow. |
