Weight & Balance |
|
|
I ran out to the hangar with the motorcycle jack to finish up the weight and balance. I had previously made the jack pads with scrap 2 x 4 lumber, and by cutting a slot in the top piece of wood, it made a very stable platform to lift the wing. I kept the aircraft level by placing a piece of wood under each wheel that wasn't being weighed, and then took three separate weights on each. After finishing the weighing, I did the math...1,152 lbs, so right about where I expected. The front carpet, gear fairings and wheel pants will add about 10 lbs, and then obviously paint at some point, so I should still come in just under 1,200 lbs when I'm all done. Definitely a bit on the heavier side, but this aircraft will be a very comfortable cross country machine, and that was my goal all along. It was never my intent to build the lightest RV-7A out there, so I’m quite pleased overall. |
