Aileron fittings |
|
|
I started today by fabricating the pushrods that connect the aileron bellcrank with the aileron. This process involves cutting a piece of powder-coated steel tube to length, inserting a threaded fitting, drilling in two places on each end, and installiing AN470 4-12 rivets. The very first hole was drilled too close to the edge of the threaded fitting, so I knew immediately that I was going to be doing some business with Van's...ouch. Unfortunately, the rest of the drilling didn't go so well...even though I clamped the tubing securely and drilled on the drill press, the holes didn't go through on center, and when I riveted the piece, the rivets tended to lay over...not good. After ordering the parts, I started on the pushrods that connect the control stick to the bell crank. As the photo shows, this tube is aluminum, so drilling was much easier and in a fairly short amount of time, I was ready to prime all pieces. Once primed, I finished one pushrod before quitting for the evening. |
