Forward rib modification |
|
|
Tonight I headed out to the hangar with a plan to clean up my center rib modification and move on to the next phase. In order to do this, I needed to complete a couple of tasks, the first of which was to remake the spacer that went the length of the reinforcement bracket. Yesterday I made the spacer from some scrap .050" aluminum, but I really needed something more like .0625". After digging through the scrap box, I found a piece that would work, but wouldn't you know...it wasn't close to the right shape/size. By now, anyone following this knows the drill...mark, cut, file, deburr, trim, etc. With that done, I cleaned everything up and primed the pieces. Nothing too interesting there. With the primer drying, I next turned to the Andair fuel selector valve (a work of art, I might add) and started working on a plan to install that. Of course the stock Van's fuel selector plate won't work, so I started figuring out a plan to make a new one. But where to get another large piece of .0625?? It turns out that there is a piece included in the finish kit (for what, I don't know), but I also had an almost unlimited supply in the Van's instrument panel that is now going to go unused...so, cut away. All in all, a productive session... |
