Awhile back, I'd decided to change from halogen to HID lights. The HID's require a power supply, which means they need a mounting surface in the nose bowl area. I fabricated two standoff brackets from .032 inch 2024-T3, alodined them and installed nutplates with a .020 inch x 3/4 inch strap, which holds the potted black box thingey that appears to be part of the power supply. I then trial fit the brackets with the nose bowl back on, which means I had to install the bottom cowl in order to do so. After verifying a safe placement, I roughened the nose bowl inner surface with 100 grit sandpaper, and using 1.5 inch fiberglass tape and epoxy, laid a wetted single layer, placed the power supply and bracket, and glassed in the brackets with an additional three ply. After the epoxy had set, I dressed up the harness and installed the connectors for hooking up to the wires from the switches.
