Apparently I was too generous with cutouts for the brake line and the fuselage-gear framing, and a single piece of aluminum wouldn't cover up the holes. So, I decided to make a fiberglass fairing, which would allow me to better contour the fairing to the fuselage. I initially cut out a poster template and then transferred it to .016 aluminum. The design condition for the fairing is cruise, which means the gear is unloaded. In order to accomadate that condition, I jacked up the fuselage so the wheels were off the ground. To bridge the gap inboard, I cut out a teardrop shape and gently bent it to fit. I tapered the aft end of the fairing using modelling clay, and used electrician's and tent repair tape, as well as a hot glue gun, to secure the aluminum on both gear, and after masking off the area, glassed in three ply's with epoxy.
