Bending Rudder Horn |
|
|
Went back to trying to bend the rudder horn. I went back to using the cheap Harbor Freight 18" brake but was having no luck. Actually bent the steel handles of the brake yet the aluminum refused to bend. I was pulling so hard that I was lifting the entire work table a few inches off the floor. Nothing, not even with Zach standing on the table. Since the handles were bending I looked through the tool box for something tougher that would fit the small holes for the handles. Decided to try my two biggest punches adding a short cheater bar to the smaller punch. Again, I was lifting the entire table but I felt some movement but the brake was bowing as well. This can't be good. With one last push I felt it bend, saw the brake bowing even more and, just like the vise, POW! One of the 4 inch C-clamps snapped. Luckily everything flew away from me. But we had success. I got the 5.2 degrees (close enough since I can't measure 0.2 degrees). Since all of the pieces were ready to go I was able to assemble, drill and up drill in about 15 minutes. |
