Continuing LSE mount fabrication |
|
|
With the cross rails held in position by side clamps (see last entry), I drilled the screw locations using the LSE boxes as a template. Then I removed the cross rails and drilled for nutplate rivets, countersunk, and installed the nutplates. Then I screwed the cross rails to the boxes and attached the side rails using side clamps, marked the locations and then marked the rivet locations. Then I drilled for the rivets and attached the rails with clecos. Next I positioned the mounts using side clamps as shown in the second and third pictures. The next step is to remove the mounts from the sub-panel and drill the stand-offs to the side rails and clean up the angle ends (trimming the non-mating surface to 45 degrees to avoid injuries to knees or head when working under the panel). Then I will rivet the mounts together and re-install under the sub-panel, drilling and clecoing only so I can remove them later and trim the cross rails as necessary for clearance for the Garmin racks.
