Started Clean Up Process |
|
|
Started the corrosion clean up process in the baggage floor area. There was a concentration of urine (i.e., corrosion) in the forward left corner and all along the left rivet line of the floor. There was also a bunch on the upper flange of the aft baggage bulkhead. Process was tedious but I think the corrosion was properly addressed. Here was the process that was followed: - Removed rivets that were soaked in urine, including rivets on the left side of the fuselage/baggage floor flange. - Using a plastic scraper, removed as much of the corrosion as possible. - Using Acetone and rags, removed primer in affected areas (Stewart Systems Ecoprimer is removable with solvents). - Using Scotch Brite pads and 320 grit sandpaper, mechanically removed corrosion but did not sand into pitted areas (would remove too much aluminum). - Using Alumiprep 33, treated exposed aluminum areas. Also scrubbed pitted areas to ensure Alumiprep 33 worked on corrosion in those areas. - Flushed with distilled water and dried. - Using Alodine 1201, treated exposed aluminum areas, flushed with water, and dried. - Reinstalled rivets in affected areas. - Primed exposed aluminum areas with Stewart Systems Ecoprimer. After tacky, resprayed entire baggage floor area. Photos below show before/during/after. |
