Sealant Top-Coating |

"Over the past week or so since Addison's unexpected arrival, I've only banged a few rivets here and there while taking care of Kim, Addison & Kade. Since the tanks are pretty well cured, today I tackled my OCD over-kill sealing project. I ""top coated"" all rivet side flange joints as follows. I'm very glad I decided to do this as I found a couple minor defects that could have lead to leaks down the road. 1) Scuffed all cured sealant fillets & rivet encapsulations with a small stainless steel brush. 2) Re-cleaned everything with MEK. 3) Using lint free wipping pads, I coated all areas to be ""top coated"" with PPG- Desoto PR148 adhesion promoter (Smurf Piss as its called in shops around the world) ;-). I left about 3/4 inch overlap. 4) Thinned the Proseal -890-b2 with lab grade toluene. using a 10% by weight ratio and ""painted"" it over all the sealed joints with a trimmed acid brush using a circular pattern to reduce any chance of air bubbles. Very, very happy with the out come!!!!" |
