Cut the canopy! Started fitting it... |
|
|
Got back from a nice long vacation and hit the hangar today. I went for broke and started the canopy project. I wanted to have the motor mounted before I tackled this, so that I didn't have to worry about the plane slamming down on the tail because I was doinking around in the cockpit area. (I had a sawhorse holding the tail up, but didn't want to risk a problem). Anyway, I remarked the cut line for dividing the canopy at the point where the fixed windscreen and the sliding portion meet. Got out the die grinder and went for it. I changed out my cutting wheel for the one that came with the kit. Glad I did. It cut the canopy a lot faster and easier than the one I had used for the initial trimming a while back. So, i zinged through the cut pretty quickly. Made an adjustment on the latch handle mounting hole and started the process of drilling and cleco-ing the plexiglass to the frame. I used masking tape to locate the tube center (where the plexi contacts it) and made holes every two inches, per plans. Got the front bow and the center fore/aft bow drilled today. Will trim the sides and back next time I'm out. |
