Cleco and Match Drill Horizontal Stabilizer |
|
|
Placed the Stabilizer skins into the cradle jigs and slowly worked in the nose ribs, front spar, main ribs, rear spar - clecoing along the way. It's neat to see it take shape. Match drilled all open #40 holes in the skins, skipped the cleco's over one hole and finished match drilling. I didn't use quite as many clecos on the second (right) side but still quite a bit. I figure the little extra time is well spent. During this phase, while dis-assembling and removing cleco's, I paused along the way to take advantage of the jig for removing the blue protective coating along the pre-drilled holes. With the skins in the jig i used a straight edge and soldering iron with a tip I rounded smooth and blunt on the scotchbrite wheel to melt the plastic just enough, as descirbed in the manual. Disassemble all parts - ready for the boring stuff... |
