Got the oil drained (finally) and mounted the engine on a stand to make it easier to work on and move out of the way when needed. Then spent some time removing more extraneous sheet metal and rodent nests. I found that someone in the past spent the money to upgrade the cooling with a few after-market Otto brand parts: Ultra-cooler Oil Pan : $190; 10lb The catalog says that when used with the matching rocker arm cover set, the oil temp can be lowered as much as 50F. It has 170% of the cooling surface area of the stock pan (314 sq.in.) and has a magnetic drain plug. High-performance oil pickup : $67; 1lb The oil pickup sits 5/8" closer to the bottom of the Ultra-cooler pan to pick up the oil closest to the pan's surface (coolest oil) and stays submerged longer during turns and turbulence. Ultra-cooler Rocker Arm Covers : $170; 8lb (pair) 316 sq.in. of surface area |
