Locate Upper Firewall Southco Retainers, Updrill H |
|
|
Feel like I'm finally making some progress. Started out locating the Southco retainers on the upper strap by itself. Then re-cleco'd the strap to the firewall and drilled the firewall to #40 using the strap as a template (just drilled the Southco locations; other holes already drilled). Then started up-drilling the center Southco holes to 11/32, which is a big drill. Step-drilled 1/32" at a time, from 1/8" up to 11/32". I think there were 6 or 7 iterations, and I'm too tired to try and calculate it out in my mind. As a side note, I used lots of lubricant and some split-point cobalt bits for the smaller holes. This seemed to help with the initial pilot drilling. Then removed the strap and started dimpling for the CCC-42 rivets. Also tried a few different ways to dimple the SSC-32 (3/32" hole) rivet locations for securing the Southcos. |
