Placards / Canopy Cable / Painting Turtledeck Form |

First off, I called Rustoleum Tech Support today to find out about the clearcoat wrinkling on the right wingtip (yet again). He asked how long I waited to sand it (2 days), and then how long I waited after sanding before clear-coating. Hmmmm... Never had that question before. He said after sanding, allow 2 days before painting again to allow time for the paint to outgas after scuffing the surface. Makes sense; we'll see what happens when I try it that way. On another paint issue, I was moving about the shop and knocked the left wingtip (the good one) onto the floor, putting 3 one-eight dings in the edge. *sigh* So, today, I finished installing the final placards in the cockpit (I had run out of labeller tape prior). I also received and installed the *engraved* passenger warning placard. I had to trim-off one corner where it was a bit longer than the adhesive version that came with the EAA registration kit. I still had some time left, so I figured I'd paint the turtledeck formers. Spent quite a bit of time masking-off the stuff I didn't want to get covered with paint. Sanded the formers and shot them with primer. Now to wait 48 hrs before first color coat. |
