Fuel Line Placement / Brake Cables / Gascolator / |

Work has really been a struggle lately; worked 18 hours the past weekend on "the other airplane", not the Sonex. Really a downer; I feel it's dramatically impacting my Sonex progress. Tonight, I worked on several small but necessary cleanup items. Last time, I mounted the grounding block to the firewall (visible in the pictures below). Tonight, I cut several ground wires to a preliminary length, stripped one end of each, and crimped a connector on each. Next, I mounted the gascolator to the firewall, then mounted the motor mount. This was to determine if I could mount the gascolator before or after the mount. With the drain valve off the gascolator, there was plenty of clearance. I still have to use compressed air to clean out the gascolator after cleaning the threads with a tap. With the motor mount on, I enlarged (lengthened) the brake cable holes that pass thru the firewall. When initially drilled, the cable rubbed a bit more than desired on the top of the holes. I used a reamer in my Dremel to lengthen the holes. Removed the motor mount and cleaned up the holes with a file. I may decide to rivet a block-off plate to reduce the larger holes (smoke and CO danger). Lastly, I pre-bent two of the fuel tank straps and pre-positioned the fuel tank w/o the glareshield. I had previously placed a mark on the firewall where I thought the fuel line would meet the firewall once it left the tank. I wanted to see how close I was. Pretty close - off by 0.5". I will be bending and flaring the fuel line soon to run from the gascolator to the tank. |
