Fix Gascolator / Add nutplates for 1 coil |
|
|
Today I received from Wicks the 1/4" nutplates to mount the coils plus a replacement 90 deg elbow for the fuel line into the gascolator. I had previously messed things up with the gascolator. The elbow, when sufficiently tightened, a) only had about 3-4 threads penetration into the gascolator and b) did not align vertically to the location of the fuel line as it exited the tank. I obtained a 1/4 NPT tap, and had at it. Unfortunately, I spalled the threads of the gascolator. In trying to fix things, I also spalled/galled/whatever the first 90 deg elbow I had. I ordered a new elbow (the one that arrived today). I took the gascolator to a machine shop to see if they could put a heli-coil in place. They did not handle NPT sizes. Rats. So, tonight, I saw that the new elbow had decent "bite" in the gascolator, but was still at about the 4 o'clock position, and it needed to point at 12 o'clock. I used the tap with lots of oil, and, going very slowly, was able to nicely clean up the threads and provide perfect 12 o'clock alignment for the elbow. What a relief. Next, I installed nutplates for the left secondary ignition coil, which had the 1/4" holes positioned and drilled last night. |
