Mount Horiz Stab |

|
Well, after all the adjustments, markings, and double-checking, I took the plunge and drilled the mounting holes for the horizontal stabilizer today. Placed the tail into position; adjusted the left-right to get the best alignment with the centerline and the skins-against-the-tail, clamped it in place, and drilled away. Next, I tried to bolt the stabilizer to the aft fuse. GIven the two inspection holes on the fuselage, you'd have to be a contortionist to get the nuts on from underneath on the front holes. The back two were relatively eay. I suppose that I could have made-up some type of wierdly-angled 7/16 wrench to go under the shear web, and up in front of the tail mounting bulkhead, but I decided to take the easy route and remove the bottom skin, which was just cleco'd into position. This allowed easy access to the mounting bolts. Just trial-fit, since I haven't cleaned up or deburred any of the parts at this time. Next up is trial fitting of the vertical stab. |
