Cut Hole / Position Enigma EFIS |
|
|
"Today I cut the opening for the MGL Enigma EFIS. I had previously marked the cut lines, so I started off by drilling a 1/2"" hole in each of the 4 corners. I then used a saber saw to cut close to the lines. Next started a lot of trial and error. Smoothed out the big bumps / material removal using the vixen file. I also had a tapered burr in my dremel tool which helped trim the tight spots. Note that the corners are angled, each about 5/8"" in length, which was too tight for most of my files. The small triangular file I had did a good job but getting too close to the angled corners was touch and go so that I didn't cut a sharp corner which could lead to a stress issue. The dremel burr worked well in these cases, because it tapered from 1/8"" down to a point, so I had a variable radius. The pic below shows the Enigma just set in place w/o any mounting holes drilled yet. Next up: drilling the switch / breaker holes and cutting the ELT remote switch opening." |
