Fitting Splice Plates |
|
|
Chamfered the edges of the 8 splice plates (SNX-F26-04 / -05 / -06 / -07, left & right), positioned, drilled, and cleco'd. Significant amounts of back and forth to the Scotchbrite wheel to get the fit decent. Each chamfered edge butts up against it's corner-mate, so getting the exact fit is trial and error. For the two lower corners, the splice plates, longeron, and skin are drilled to accept an AN-525 phillips head bolt. All 3 other splice plate / longeron surfaces, will also get this treatment, but at a later time. Plans say to just drill and cleco to 3/32" at this time. AN holes are to be tight-fit, so I drilled to 3/16, then reamed to 3/16 (yes, they're different sizes). Good fit. Removed every other cleco for the channels and lower longeron, and up-drilled to #30. Refastened with #30 cleco's, then removed the remaining 3/32" cleco's and up-drilled the remaining holes. The upper longeron holes are left at #40 at this time, until the turtledeck is fitted. Positioned and pilot drilled the inspection hole covers (pilot drilled the fastening screws to 5/64"). |
