More Sub Assy Work on Aft Fuse Panels |
|
|
Obtained a fly cutter and cut the 4" inspection opening in both the left and right aft fuse skin. Moved the drill press to the workbench and propped-up the side panel sub assemblies to a height where they would clear the drill press. Drilled a seried of 3/8" holes to make the 3/8 x 2" openings for the rudder cables, both left and right fuse skins. As I did last night, individually placed, measured, and pilot-drilled the left side vertical channels one at a time, flipping the wing over between the positioning and the drilling. At this point, some builders start riveting things together. I held off on this since I will be drilling into the skin and longerons for the placement of the splice plates, and prefer to deburr everything at once. Bent 6 of the 8 splice plates (2 are not bent) using the hammer and vise method. All turned out well. Still need to pilot-drill the splice plates to 3/32", chamfer edges, then position, drill, and cleco. |
