Trip to MetalSuperMarkets and center spar |
|
|
3.5 hours of the day were spent traveling up to South Plains, NJ to pick up an order at Metal SuperMarkets. Picked up ¼” x 1 ½” x 12 foot bars (4) needed for making left and right wing spars. I was going to have them shipped from Aircraft Spurce but they wanted $260 for shipping $100 worth of material. No thanks. On the way back the flexible tailpipe on the suburban broke. No biggy, will fix later. Took blank I had cut for center spar the other day and made required bends. Turns out I messed up the final bend in the spar web. Used a short strip of wood to try to coax the bend the extra couple of degrees and put a bunch of mars in the .032 sheet … “sheet.” Recut and remade front center spar web. Cut and made rear spar web. Cut lightening holes in both and flared. Sheet again. Should have waited to flare holes because I was supposed to layout holes and then drill holes for mounting spar caps through both webs at the same time. Oh wel, still doable, not just a little more work. Started making 13.7mm (.540”) spacers for center spar assembly. First one a little too short. Mess with it Saturday. |
