Main spar web |

Just about ready to start laying out hole pattern for center spar I recheck the plans and realized I cut the web 20mm undersized. Plans calls for 3140mm AFTER FORMING. There was no developed length indication on the plans as there is normally. Ugh. Dag, have to cut a whole new .040 web. Wasn't looking forward to that at all after the last go-round. Been agonizing over this no really good tool for making LONG cuts through fairly thickl material. Was never really happy with the laminate cutter; making repeated scores and then folding/breaking the piece over the edge of the table. Decided to look in the cupboard and see what I had. Pulled out both power shears I have; one electrics (piece of crap, pieces too warped), and the other pneumatic. Couldn't remember ever using it. Hhhmmm, lets give it a try. Wow, cuts great. I'll use it. Couldn't remember why I never used it. 2 minutes later I remembered why, it jammed up. WTF? Pulled it apart and found a planet gear set, that moved... pulled apart head, that moved. Put it back together, jammed up again. Pulled it apart again, and put the cam that the planets move in the business end, that jammed. Apparently a high-spot in the 'quality' Chinese made central machinery shears. Pulled apart the blades and after several tries got the cam to move without a problem. In the process I also ground down the underside of the shears a bit to remove a high sharp angled spot that was making a slight scratch across the sheet as I cut earlier. Put it all back together and gave it a whirl. Cut til it didn't. Still binding. Double WTF? continued... |
