Finish Metal Ribs and Cut Foam Trailing Edge Ribs |
|
|
The whole thing with the counterbalance ribs was for some reason very demotivating. I couldn't bring myself to skip that step and move on. Eventually I forced myself to go to the shop and do something, no matter how small. I finished the deburring of the metal ribs and clecko'ed them together. Then I started working on the foam trailing edge ribs. In the end you have eight trailing ribs (E-00924) and three trim tab ribs (E-01408). First you glue on a template, then cut the ribs out of the foam and finish them to final size on a belt sander. I started doing this but quickly found out the foam clogs up my belt sander. I got one rib done and found the sander to be ineffective for the next one. I tried to scrape the foam dust out of the sandpaper belt but that was only partially effective. It looks like I'll need to buy some additional belts for my sander. I put the rest aside to finish at a later date. Airventure is right around the corner and even though I'm having a little trouble working on the plane consistantly I'm really looking forward to going. I'll participate in the One Week Wonder build of an RV-12iS. My shift will be on Thursday, July 26 in the afternoon. Maybe that will help. |
